Warren Sapp not exactly a big a fan of the state of The U

Warren Sapp

Warren Sapp has never been shy of expressing his thoughts or feelings. This is why if Sapp is making the rounds at the Super Bowl’s week-long radio row and generating some buzz. On Thursday he was asked about a number of subjects regarding the Pro Football Hall of Fame class and the upcoming Super Bowl by Miami sports station 560 WQAM, and that included some questions about Sapp’s Miami Hurricanes.

He was not all that thrilled about the current state of The U.

“Don’t talk to me about Al Golden and whatever that D-coordinator’s name is,” Sapp said. “Don’t hire someone you can’t fire. That’s the golden rule. The D-coordinator is killing my school. That looks like no Miami defense in the history of our school; even when [Howard]¬†Schnellenberger was getting it started!”

The defensive coordinator Sapp did not bother to mention by name is Mark¬†D’Onofrio, who has come under fire for struggling defenses the last couple of seasons at Miami. The Hurricanes finished 10th in the ACC each of the last two seasons in scoring defense. Miami was 13th in the 14-team ACC in total defense in 2013.

Sapp also took exception with Golden interviewing for the head coaching vacancy at Penn State.

“Go home,” Sapp said when reminded Golden was a Penn State alum. “You don’t need to interview at home if you know what home is. Go home.”

Clearly Golden has some work to do to smooth over relations with some members of the Miami football family.

Sapp was a good player but he has the brain of a fruit fly at best. If you have something to say it better be nice or just close that big pie hole. Your comments reek of the look at me theme….ssshhh Warren you have had your annual five minutes of fame…..sheesh.

    Such an idiot

The only thing Al Golden needs to do to keep most of the Miami faithful happy is win and keep the program out of trouble. He isn’t going to make everyone happy, and frankly there are some from “The U” who are better left in their rear-view mirror.

Pound for pound, Sapp is the greatest player ever. That is only because he is the fattest POS to walk on the field.

I actually agree with Sapp in that if Al Golden wants to interview at Penn State or anywhere else then go somewhere else. I really don’t want a coach that is wishy washy. I don’t think he is though, but I’d he is then he can go! Also the DC does suck! Our defenses the past couple of years have been horrible! Not tough and playing hard and fast like in the past. They’ve been weak, horrible tacklers, soft, and just not playing hard like in the past.

  9. rodge1 says: Jan 30, 2014 7:16 PM

I can’t stand Sapp nowadays but he’s 100% right about this. The offensive coordinator sucks too.

  10. jes3400 says: Jan 30, 2014 7:25 PM

It’s his school & he is embarrassed! He has that wright more than any of us I like Golden but the D will cost him 3 straight years the defense has gotten worse!!!

This is what happens when there is an extra week before the Super Bowl.

You can’t ignore the injuries of 2013 on the offensive side of the ball. However, our D looks confused. Confusion goes slow. Certainty is fast and the confusion may speak to how the players are understanding coaching.

Who really cares what this piece of crap thinks!

I just want PFT, CFT or any other “talk” to know that it is not mandatory to post everything uttered by this big fat fraud.

Warren Sapp does talk a lot and even though I don’t always agree with what he’s says i think he spoke the truth on this situation. Coach D has done a lousy job no doubt about it. And coach golden is a great coach with potential to make miami a football powerhouse again but it’s going to be tough if you let a friend/coach stay on staff when not performing his job to miami standards we as fans are expecting to see. And al golden taking the trip to penn state lost of a commit of valentine and now DT Wyche decommitted due to a ACC ruling that would not allow him to enroll. #bummer

This is the most pathetic and embarrassing display of attention whoredom I have seen in a long time. Warren Sapp is a joke.

  19. lowtalker says: Jan 31, 2014 7:01 AM

I think. Sapp was on that Miami team that got overrun by Nebraska in the 2nd half. do the Orange Bowl played for national championship As I recall that Miami defense looked like a bunch of winded old men against Nebraska. They couldn’t stop Huskers in 2nd half. Sapp looked real good that night. and now he is just a bankrupt thug.

  20. crindal3000 says: Jan 31, 2014 9:29 AM

what is warren fatt getting attention right now?

  21. dirtyharry1971 says: Jan 31, 2014 9:53 AM

Not a fan of Sapp but I gotta admit this he said one thing that makes sense. Golden applying for the psu job? Really? Go home Al seriously that’s a joke

Sapp is certainly entitled to his opinion as everyone on this forum is. However if you make your opinion public, then you leave yourself open to be judged as to your cognitive skills as well as your objectivity. I agree with Sapp about Miami’s defense. I would think this is a do or die year for Dinofrio. However, for Sapp and others on here to say that Al Golden should leave if he showed interest in the Penn State job reeks of either homerism or complete lack of understanding of big time college football. By most objective standards Penn State has a much better football PROGRAM than Miami does. I happen to like the U but I also can look at facts objectively. Penn States football budget dwarfs Miami’s. Penn State pays their coaches significantly better than Miami does, Penn State plays on campus in a sold out 100,000+ stadium. Miami plays 25 miles away from their campus and rarely approaches a sell out unless they are playing Florida or FSU and then it is more like an away game due to the fan base, Miami’s facilities (weight room, dining facilities and practice fields) are no where near what Penn State has. The list goes on. In Miami’s favor, they sit right in the middle of what is probably the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country and they have superior weather. The Cane die hard will also say that “we have 5 national championships”, how many does Penn State have? The problem is that Miami hasn’t done squat since the college football landscape changed. Miami hasn’t even won a divisional championship since they joined a real conference. In that same time period Florida and FSU have won multiple NCs. Please don’t take this as an attack on Miami. Unfortunately their administration and fan base just does not support them like the power programs do. I like Miami but for those on here who say good riddance to Al Golden, be careful what you wish for. Amongst coaches who have choices, the U is not at the top of many coaches wish list for all the reasons cited above.

Just be happy your sanctions were next to nothing warren. Miami should have no probs getting recruits….it’s sunny in Florida

I don’t know what Warren’s talking about. We love Coach Golden.

Dude is just doing his job.

  27. chiefagc5675 says: Feb 1, 2014 4:16 PM

What Stupid Sapp and all the other Miami gripers
seem to forget is that Coach Golden now has to recruit actual guys who can write their own names- show up for class most days and actually do enough work to pass some courses- Thug U is over Sapp.

  28. chillyphil73 says: Feb 5, 2014 2:28 PM

I once was a fan of “The U”, when it had swag and passion and confidence/arrogance imbedded in the program. They have long since denuded it of all of the above, and consequently stopped winning annually and being successful at the same time. I like Warren Sapp the player, plus I have no problem with an athlete speaking his/her mind as long as he/she delivers superior effort consistantly such as Sapp did in his career-both in college and the NFL. Yes, Warren is very boisterous and talks a lot, but there is usally a grain of truth to his messages whether you like him or not. Many of the comments on here are very childish and insulting, but these same people have the nerve to put Sapp down for his comments?!! Can someone explain this, without bias? If you don’t like what Sapp said, then just disagree and explain why. But, to have to call him names and talk about his weight, both of which have nothing to do with addressing his comments?! The guy is one of the better players to come out of Miami- and they have certainly had some gret ones too. He has as much right to state his opinion about the program as anyone else here does- and probably a whole hell of a lot more to boot. Just saying.

noaxetogrind. Before this year FSU had not won a national championship since 1999.
