Report: Former Memphis coach Tommy West added to Middle Tennessee State staff

Former Memphis head coach Tommy West has been hired by Middle Tennessee State to coach its defensive line, CoachingSearch.com reported on Tuesday.

West was 49-61 in his nine seasons at Memphis. He was fired after a 2-7 start in 2009 and sat out a year before going on to serve as the defensive coordinator for UAB (2011) and Southern Miss (2012). He did not coach in 2013. He was also the head coach of Clemson from 1993-1998.

The Blue Raiders return six of eight players on their defensive line two-deep next fall, including promising freshman Shaquille Huff, so West will have some solid material to work with.

Journeyman Losing coach, was awful at Clemson, and really not all that talented. I suppose FBS is a better fit for him.
