Terry Bowden adds former Auburn player to Akron staff

Two decades after playing for Terry Bowden at Auburn, Otis Mounds will now work under the head coach, albeit at a football program a little bit further north.

Akron announced Monday that Bowden has added Mounds to his Zips coaching staff. Mounds will serve as Akron new cornerbacks coach.

Mounds’ only time spent at the FBS level as a coach came as a defensive grad assistant with Texas Tech in 2010 and 2011. Bowden was Auburn’s head coach during Mounds’ final two years as a player with the Tigers (1993-94).

“We look forward to having Otis join our staff,” Bowden sai in a statement. “He brings a unique mix of college and high school coaching background, including having worked with one of the best prep programs in the country at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. Those connections will certainly help us in terms of recruiting. Additionally, his experience as a professional player will be a valuable resource for our players.”
