Edsall puts up fence as five-star in-state OT signs with Terps

Maryland may not have the best recruiting class in the country -- it’s currently No. 72 -- but Randy Edsall has picked up what’s both literally and figuratively a huge signing late this morning.

Fending off the overtures of both Florida and South Carolina, offensive tackle Damian Prince announced Wednesday that he will be signing with his home-state Terps. The 6-5, 292-pound lineman from Forestville had taken visits to the Gators and Gamecocks last month, but Edsall and his coaching staff were able to lock up Prince’s commitment in the days heading into signing day.

Prince is a highly-touted offensive lineman, rated as the No. 2 tackle and the No. 20 player at any position.

As noted by Stewart Mandel of SI.com, Prince’s signing with Maryland means the Big Ten -- the Terps will join that conference in July -- has signed three players in Rivals.com‘s Top 20 for the first time since 2008. The other two are No. 3 Jabrill Peppers (Michigan) and No. 19 Raekwon McMillan (Ohio State).

Of the 15 remaining Top 20 recruits who have signed today, 10 did so with SEC schools, so there’s that.
