Georgia’s defensive Class of 2014 adds Rivals No. 3 DE Lorenzo Carter

One of the nation’s top defensive ends will be staying close to home for his college football. Norcross, Georgia defensive end Lorenzo Carter announced Wednesday afternoon he will be joining Georgia.

Carter is ranked the third defensive end in the nation by Rivals and is one of the top five players in the state of Georgia as well. He joins a recruiting class at Georgia with a solid focus on defense. Georgia has defensive tackle Kendall Baker and linebacker Detric Bing-Dukes already signed as well as defensive end Keyon Brown out of Florida. All are four-star prospects.

The recruiting battle for Carter came down to the wire. Georgia ended up getting the victory and may have benefitted from getting the last official visit on Carter’s travel agenda. Carter visited Georgia last weekend, a week after he visited Florida State and two weeks after visiting LSU. He had visited Florida in September as well. All four schools were considered high on his final list, which made for a heated battle.

Carter was named a first-team All-USA player by USA Today, and he played in the Under Armour All-American bowl as well.

Georgia already had a top ten recruiting class according to Rivals, ranked ninth before the addition of Carter.
