South Carolina putting together their own Legion of Boom

South Carolina and Georgia have battled for SEC East bragging rights over the last few years. Naturally, that rivalry and competitiveness boils over in to recruiting. On National Signing Day the Gamecocks scored a recruiting victory over Georgia cornerback Wesley Green.

Green announced his decision late Wednesday afternoon that he will join South Carolina. In his press conference he stated the Gamecocks new class is looking to start a new Legion of Boom, following up on the success demonstrated by the Seattle Seahawks this past NFL season. Perhaps the Gamecocks can battle with the other USC for that title in time after the Trojans have put together a top-notch defensive secondary in this recruiting class as well. He is the fourth defensive back signed by the Gamecocks today, joining four-star D.J. Smith of Georgia and three star players Darin Smith (Summerville, South Carolina) and Al Harris Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, Florida). The Gamecocks were in need of quality depth help in the defensive backfield and they have locked that up in the Class of 2014.

Green is a four-star prospect and a top 20 defensive back in the nation and top 20 player overall in the state of Georgia according to Rivals. The Gamecocks are adding five players form the state of Georgia so far in the Class of 2014.

The Gamecocks only had the ninth best recruiting class in the SEC according to Rivals but South Carolina is ranked is ranked 17th in the nation at this point.
