Three-star Mich. St. commit wants to visit Ohio State before signing

As it turns out, Malik McDowell is far from Michigan State’s lone defensive line worry on National Signing Day.

Montclair (NJ) defensive end Darius Slade, the Newark Star-Ledger confirmed through the player’s high school coach, has decided against signing (for now) with Michigan State after verbally committing to the Spartans last month. Instead, Slade will take a visit to Ohio State Feb. 15 before making a final decision on his collegiate future.

The defensive lineman was originally a Nebraska commitment before flipping to Michigan State. New OSU defensive line coach Larry Johnson and Slade reportedly have a very solid relationship, a relationship that was built during the coach’s time at Penn State.

The Buckeyes are holding back a scholarship in anticipation of signing Slade.

Slade is a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, rated as the No. 19 player in the state of New Jersey at any position.
