Starter Cody Riggs transferring from Florida

A day of addition was also one of subtraction for the Florida Gators.

Head coach Will Muschamp confirmed Wednesday evening that safety Cody Riggs has decided to bid adieu to the UF football program. While Muschamp would not detail the specific reasons behind the transfer, the Gainesville Sun wrote earlier in the day that “Riggs wants to go transfer to a school where he’ll have a chance to play the wide cornerback position.”

A source told the Sun that was not an option available to Riggs if he stayed in Gainesville.

“Cody Riggs and his parents came to me and he’s going to finish up in May and transfer to another school to finish his last year of eligibility,” Muschamp said. “Wanted a fresh start. I appreciate his contributions to Florida.”

By graduating in May, Riggs will be eligible to play at an FCS program right away in 2014.

During his time with the Gators, Riggs started 26 of the 40 games in which he played. 12 of those starts came as a safety after beginning his UF career as a corner.

A four-star recruit out of Ft. Lauderdale in 2010, Riggs was rated as the No. 11 cornerback in the country that cycle.
