Report: ex-Rutgers DC to take same job at Arkansas

Nearly a month after losing its defensive coordinator to Ohio State, Arkansas is reportedly looking at a replacement with ties to a future Big Ten school.

Citing an unnamed source, ESPN.com‘s Brett McMurphy is reporting that Robb Smith will be hired as the Razorbacks’ new defensive coordinator. Smith would replace Chris Ash, who left for the Buckeyes in mid-January.

Smith spent four years at Rutgers (2009-12) as an assistant, including one year as coordinator. He left the Scarlet Knights in February of 2013 to join his former RU boss, Greg Schiano, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A linebackers coach during his lone season with the Bucs, Smith was not retained following Schiano’s firing.

His only other experience as a coordinator came at Maine from 2006-08.
