Reports: Army swipes FAU’s DC

In a surprise move, a defensive coordinator at a mid-level FBS program has left for an assistant job at another mid-level FBS program.

Multiple media outlets reported Thursday that FAU defensive coordinator Jovan Dewitt has decided to take his leave of the Owls for a defensive assistant job at Army. Dewitt is expected to become the Black Knights’ linebackers coach.

Dewitt had spent the past two seasons at FAU. He was promoted to interim coordinator last October when Pete Rekstis, along with head coach Carl Pelini, resigned amidst a cloud of controversy connected to illicit drugs.

New FAU head coach Charlie Partridge had retained Dewitt as part of his first coaching staff, naming him as the permanent coordinator. Roc Bellatoni, who was given the title of co-defensive coordinator by Partridge, will become FAU’s sole defensive coordinator, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

The job at FAU was the first at the FBS level for Dewitt in a coaching career that began in 1997.
