When Chris Ash left Arkansas for Ohio State last month, it was thought the Razorbacks may stay in-house and look to Randy Shannon as their new defensive coordinator. While that didn’t happen, the former Miami head coach has received a revamped contract for his troubles.
The Arkansas News Bureau reported Monday on Shannon’s new contract with the university, a deal that includes a bump in total pay to $400,000. Shannon had earned $315,000 as UA’s linebackers coach in 2013.
It had previously been announced that Shannon received the additional title of senior associate head coach. He will continue to coach linebackers this season as well.
Shannon is now under contract through June 30 of 2015.
Instead of opting for someone already on his coaching staff, head coach Bret Bielema went outside the football program to fill the hole left by Ash’s departure. Nearly two weeks ago, the Razorbacks announced that former Rutgers defensive coordinator Robb Smith had been hired for the same job with the Hogs.
