$14.5 million stadium walkway at South Carolina approved

South Carolina is going to be sprucing things up around Williams-Brice Stadium. Say good-bye to the old, plain paved parking lots, and say hello to a scenic, tree-lined walkway leading up to the stadium. The university approved a $14.5 million plan to change the landscape outside of the football stadium.

The intent of the new walkway is to cut down on congestion in the parking lots leading in to the stadium. Fans will no longer have to walk through tailgate parties and parked cars to get just outside of the stadium, although this will require some parking spots to be moved.

“It sort of gives you the feel of an industrial area (now) and when we’re finished, you’re going to feel like you’re in a garden or a theme park,” USC athletics director Ray Tanner said.

According to The State, the project will begin with renovating after the 2014 season and should be completed in time for the 2015 season.
