An even 10 days after his likely hiring was reported, Greg Robinson has officially been added to the San Jose State coaching staff.
Robinson, the school announced Friday, has been hired as the Spartans new defensive coordinator. Kenwick Thompson, the man Robinson will replace, left SJSU for a job at Vanderbilt.
The 62-year-old Robinson has an extensive career at both the collegiate and professional levels. Following the firing of Manny Diaz early last season, Robinson took over as Texas’ defensive coordinator. It was Robinson’s second stint in that role with the Longhorns, the first coming in 2004.
Fired as Syracuse’s head coach following the 2008 season (10-37 record), Robinson spent two rather unproductive years -- unless you were the opposing offense -- running Michigan’s defense under Rich Rodriguez. The Wolverines were 82nd in total defense in 2009, 110th in 2010. UM was 77th in scoring defense in 2009 and 108th in scoring defense in 2010.

In addition to the hiring of Robinson, head coach Ron Caragher announced Keith Carter has been added to the staff as offensive line coach and running game coordinator. Carter spent the past two seasons as an offensive quality control coach with the Seattle Seahawks.
