Jadeveon Clowney beat Johnny Manziel by .21 seconds at NFL combine

South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was set to be the star of the Monday edition of the NFL Scouting Combine, and so far he is running away with the spotlight. Clowney was clocked with an unofficial 4.47 in his first 40-yard dash of the day. Talk about SEC speed.

Just last week South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said Clowney’s work ethic was “OK,” but said he will be worthy of strong┬áconsideration for the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. With a lightning fast 40-time this morning, the case for picking him first is becoming stronger.

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has been vocal about his desire to be the first pick, which is owned by the Houston Texans. Manziel led the quarterback pack in the 40-yard dash time over the weekend with a 4.68 time. Clowney beat him by .21 seconds, with a bigger frame. Impressive.

Times in the 40-yard dash are just one factor in to determining a player’s value of course, but Clowney’s explosive speed and splits in the 40-yard dash are going to be the talk of the day and perhaps the combine leading up to the draft.

    First off, I doubt even the most die hard of Aggies would argue that Manziel is more athletic than Clowney…. Clowney is a once in a generation athlete.

    A better headline here is that Manziel was only the 4th fastest QB in the 40.

    Manziel is quicker than he is straight line fast though. He was the fastest QB in most of the agility and acceleration drills.

    I still say both of these divas have a lot to prove. And besides which players are we seein at the Combine: the guy who wants to prove he wants to play football or the diva wantin to strut his tailfeathers like the arrogant peacock they’ve known to be? Seriously, these guys need to show somethin besides egos to make it in the NFL. If they intend on makin a livin at it and have nothin else to fall back on they don’t need to let their egos get in the way of business.

    Clowneys 4.47 is unofficial. To make an apples to apples comparison, Manziel ran a 4.56 unofficial, the fastest of any QB at the combine.

    That would be 0.9 sec faster since Clowney refused further workouts following slower 4.8 forty on second try. No Official time for Clowney in the 40, but unofficially he is 0.9 seconds faster than Manziel.

    @suprmous

    If you don’t think Manziel wants to play football, you aren’t watching. Yeah, he’s been a bit of a playboy off the field, but between the lines he’s all business.

    He’s spent most of the offseason too working on his craft and trying to get better. You also aren’t hearing anymore about his off the field exploits. Now either he’s just being more careful about it or it’s happening less, either way shows increased maturity.

    8to8texansblog, I hear ya loud and clear and time will tell. I just hope the kid does wise up and realize that what he’s wantin to achieve can only happen with hard work and dedication. Unlike a few others who seem to think they can glide thru the Combine with ease it’s not all a bed of roses and bottles of champagne. I maintain my stance and wish all of the guys who wanna play the best of luck and may we all find some worth watchin.

    No worries ;)

    Just reading about how my Aggies had 3 starters involved in an incident where 1 got arrested for pot possession…. Not good…. :(

    I may be a female but it breaks my heart when good players do stupid things that prevent em from playin. I’ll never understand how they say they wanna play, work out like crazy, and then go do stupid things that prevent em achievein their dreams. Just doesn’t make sense to me. Nonetheless, here’s wishin your Aggies a good year tho I’m a die hard in the wool LSU fan ;)

    Johnny will do relative well in the NFL, however, most of the defensive ends, linebackers and defensive backs will be faster than what Manziel faced in college. To his credit JM has exceptional quickness that presents an ever-moving target for defenses to content with.

    Clowney drives fast and Manziel likes to party and chases women. How do those things describe bad character, but Michael Sam partying and chasing men makes him a hero. What a freaking joke!
