Former four-star Vols DL signs with Cyclones

In January of 2013, Trent Taylor (no relation) was one of three freshmen to “leave” the Tennessee football program. A little over a year later, the defensive lineman has made his way back to the FBS level.

Iowa State announced Monday that Taylor has signed his National Letter of Intent and will play for the Cyclones in 2014. Taylor had spent the 2013 season at Butler (Kan.) Community College after leaving the Vols.

Scout.com had Taylor rated as a four-star prospect coming out of high school in Lakeland Florida, while Rivals.com had him as a three-star recruit. Taylor was the No. 19 strongside defensive end in the Class of 2012 according to the latter recruiting website.

As a true freshman in 2012, Taylor played in one game for the Vols. Shortly after his departure from UT, Taylor was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
