Report: Craig James says he was fired for views on gay marriage

Craig James AP

Craig James, a hot sports take all by himself, says he was recently let go from his latest television job due to his opinions on gay marriage.

According to a report by the Associated Press, James is stating Fox Sports Southwest terminated his contract  due to his religious beliefs related to same-sex marriage. A complaint has been filed on James’s behalf by Liberty Institute, a nonprofit legal group promoting religious rights. Also according to the Associated Press report, Fox Sports released a statement stating James was hired without a proper vetting process completed and referred to James as a “polarizing figure in the college sports community.” The network believes James had used his role as analyst to “further his personal agenda.”

This would not be the first time James has been accused of using his television job to pursue an agenda. James previously worked for ESPN as a college football analyst. He resigned from his position with the network in 2012 to pursue a political career. This came shortly after a messy issue at Texas Tech that resulted din the firing of head coach Mike Leach. James had accused Leach of abusing his son, Adam.

    You are wrong, Craig James.

You were fired because you are an insufferable asshat and nobody like you.

  2. gorilladunk says: Feb 26, 2014 9:33 AM

All James needed to do to get a feel on how the public perceives him is to take a look at the primary election results. He was publicly humiliated and his idiot thoughts (on much more than just gay rights) were made public for everyone to see. The voters made it pretty plain that he needs to crawl back under the rock from which he emerged.

Pretty sure this is not a strong argument when your former employer is Fox.

Craig you know if you speak out about gays you will lose your job. That’s the way America is going. Who gives a crap about Sams and/or Collins “coming out”. Just to attention whores. Neither one will make a difference on any team. Any one that drafts Sams will do so because they must do what the gay lovers want them to do.

Makes one pine for the good old days when sportscasters could have polarizing political opin — wait, those days never existed?

He probably was, but he more than likely got fired for also being a douche…

I don’t think anyone should put any weight into what Craig has to say until he admits he accepted money to attend SMU. I don’t think Jesus would approve of lying Craig, now go sit in the tool shed until that brain injury clears up!!

What is it about becoming a politician that makes people turn ugly like this?

Lesson: If you side with exclusion / discrimination / segregation / caste you will lose in America. It is inevitable. The religious persecution that drove people to cross the Atlantic and seek a new beginning is now the instrument with which freedom seekers are beaten. Craig James is on the wrong side of history now, and he will be so forever.

He wasn’t let go, he was dumped like the worthless sack of garbage that he is.

Irrespective of the claims James is making, the statement by Fox is ridiculous. They hired him “without a proper vetting process?!” Really? How many years was he on ESPN? This was Fox Sports Southwest–he went to SMU, he ran for public office in TX, he and his son were central figures in the flap that got Mike Leach fired at Texas Tech. Any claim by anybody in Texas in the sports industry that they did not realize what a polarizing figure Craig James can be is utter nonsense.

Are we recycling articles now? Kind of a “Throwback Thursday” sort of thing? Because they ran an article on James making this same claim probably 6 months ago. It wasn’t true then, either.

I think Mike Leach put the wrong James in a closet….

This guy needs to go away….

  18. drsportsjock says: Feb 26, 2014 11:47 AM

Being an asshole/killing prostitutes isn’t a religious belief, Craig

  19. bucrightoff says: Feb 26, 2014 11:54 AM

Personally don’t care about his beliefs. I care that he sucks at his job and is extremely annyoing/unknowledgable. I mean he makes Jesse Palmer look good. Tells you all you need to know.

  20. tuckfexas says: Feb 26, 2014 12:48 PM

Did Craig James kill 5 hookers at SMU?

  21. dietrich43 says: Feb 26, 2014 12:56 PM

Fox shows how bad they are by back-pedaling on the hire. Never should have hired him, and tried to dump him after the fact.

Having said that, James is an insufferable jerkwad and I can’t imagine anyone watching anything with him in it – views on gay marriage or not.

And any group with “liberty” in the name, isn’t fighting for liberty, just their own agenda.

  25. drummerhoff says: Feb 26, 2014 3:22 PM

But of course do not make that same edict to those advocating gay rights and/or gay lifestyles. Let’s let them cram THEIR beliefs down everyone’s throat!!

  30. dhardy8207 says: Feb 27, 2014 2:25 PM

All FOX affiliates are pretty well conservative so I can’t believe that they would fire him over what he claims.

Anywhoo, this guy is racking up a history of short term gigs… Not looking good for the resume’ there Craig….

  31. hor2012 says: Mar 4, 2014 7:47 PM

I think he’s right. If he had spoken out about any other issue he’d still have his job. And, how is it that someone can speak out in support of something but if you speak out against the same issue you’re persecuted
