Gators add ECU to future schedule

While not nearly as noteworthy as extending its rivalry with Florida State, Florida did announce another addition to its future schedules.

Both UF and East Carolina confirmed Thursday that the two football programs will square off during the 2015 season. The game will, obviously, be played in Gainesville on Sept. 12 of that year.

“I’m sure many of our fans will remember the last time we played in The Swamp,” ECU AD Jeff Compher said. “While it’s a great opportunity to compete in that environment against a program with the tradition Florida has, I’m confident Coach (Ruffin) McNeill will have the Pirates ready to play.”

The game to which Compher referred came in 1983, with the then-No. 6 Gators escaping The Swamp with a 24-17 win over the unranked Pirates. That was the first and only meeting between the two football programs.
