Purdue adds Swedish offensive lineman

Big Ten football is going global. Purdue has officially added offensive tackle David Hedelin, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, to the roster for the upcoming season. Hedelin is a native of Sweden, although he is transferring to the Boilermakers from City College of San Francisco.

“We are really excited to add David as the 20th Boilermaker in the 2014 class,” said Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell in the school’s official announcement. “He is an extremely athletic big man who is college-ready”.

Hedelin measures 6-foot-6 and 285 pounds, so he will add some size to Purdue’s offensive line. Purdue is losing a pair of seniors at both offensive tackle positions, so Hedelin may have a chance to compete with some redshirt freshmen for playing time. Camerin Cermin and J.J. Prince were each listed on the second team offensive line at the end of the 2013 season and between the three players Purdue will have players with similar size no matter how the line is filled out on the ends.

Rivals ranks Hedelin as the No. 8 junior college offensive lineman in the class of 2014. Hedelin chose to attend Purdue over a number of schools extending offers. Other schools showing interest in the Swedish lineman include Michigan State, Arizona State, Oregon, USC, West Virginia and more.
