Iowa’s expected multi-headed quarterback competition could be thinned by one headed into spring practice.
According to HawkeyeReport.com, Cody Sokol has decided to leave the Hawkeyes and look elsewhere to use his final season of collegiate eligibility. That elsewhere is expected to include Ball State and Louisiana Tech, the website reported.
For what it’s worth, Iowa has yet to confirm Sokol’s status for the 2014 season.
Sokol spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College before coming to the Hawkeyes as a three-star JUCO recruit. After redshirting in 2012, Sokol competed with Jake Rudock and C.J. Beathard for the starting job, which was ultimately won by the former.
Rudock and Beathard both return in 2014, with redshirt freshman Nic Shimonek and true freshman Tyler Wiegers joining the fray as well.
