Gamecocks reportedly lose CB Ronnie Martin to transfer

Ronnie Martin

The stop-and-start career of Ronnie Martin has reportedly come to an end.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, GoGamecocks.com is reporting that the cornerback has decided to leave the Gamecocks football program and transfer to another institution.  No reason was given for Martin’s decision.

Martin signed with the Gamecocks in 2011, but spent 2011 and 2012 attending the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga., to get his academic house in order.  He re-signed with the Gamecocks in January of last year.

While he appeared in just one game last season, Martin was in line for increased playing time in 2014.

I wonder if he wants to go to UGA. I don’t know if they could get him on the team this year, or even if they have a need for him. I would think if Coach Pruitt thought he could contribute to the program, they would at least inquire to gauge his interest.

He only has two total years of eligibility left assuming he still has his redshirt and will have to sit out a year if he transfers to a D1 school, so he’s probably not worth the roster spot for UGA

No big loss at all. If he didn’t care enough about football to hit the books harder, then I don’t want him on the team anyways.
