HS national champ coach rejoins Miami staff

Tim Ice Harris

A very familiar face to both the Miami football program and the high school sports scene in that area has come back to the Hurricanes.

The U announced Monday morning that Tim “Ice” Harris has resigned his post as the head coach at Miami Booker T. Washington High School to join Al Golden‘s staff as assistant director of football operations.  The release states that Harris “will be the primary liaison with high school coaches” as well as assisting “in coordinating community service events for current student-athletes.”

From 2008-10, Harris served as the assistant to former UM head coach Randy Shannon, coordinating the football team’s community relations projects as well as assisting in other day-to-day operations of the football program.

Harris served two different stints as the head coach at high school powerhouse Booker T. Washington.  The school won back-to-back Class 4A state championships in 2012 and 2013, and last season they were the top-ranked high school football team in the country according to MaxPreps.

Harris’ son, Tim Harris Jr., is expected to take over for his father as the high school’s head coach.  Another of Harris’ sons, Brandon Harris, played cornerback for the Hurricanes late last decade.

This is strictly for recruiting purposes

“Strictly for recruiting purposes” makes the move sound not very meaningful. However, the single biggest factor in building a winning program is recruiting the best athletes.

So the question is which recruit(s) did he funnel to Golden to get this kickback?

Eh the job offer has always been there for Ice. He’s just now acknowledging that if he ever wants to get an ass’t coaching job in college, he needs his degree first. Working for UM, he can get his degree for a huge discount while still living at home. The timing may have more to do with all his kids are done with HS now.

Still, gonna be weird when the entire family has Miami degrees but Treon is at UF.

The job offer wasnt already there, Golden told him he could stay after Shannon was fired but made it clear he didn’t really want him there and he knew he could go back to Booker T. This is totally a recruiting move, once Shannon got hired at Arkansas they started getting alot of kids from Miami, plus Golden hurt is local recruiting pulling scholarship offers in 2013 recruiting class and even had kidstweet that they went else where because Golden pulled offers late from other local kids and they didn’t trust the maimi staff any lomger. So now he brings in the only chancehe has to repair those Miami HS relations the best HSHC in the state
