Dottie Sandusky, filmmaker maintain Jerry Sandusky’s innocence

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky and his wife Dottie arrive for a preliminary hearing at Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte AP

Jerry Sandusky’s wife, Dottie, gave her first public interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer and professed her belief that her husband is innocent. She also blamed the victims who were sexually abused as children by Sandusky, who was convicted on 45 of 58 charges of sexual abuse in June 2012, of being greedy.

“Do I believe him?’’ she told Matt Lauer. “I definitely believe him. Because if I didn’t believe him, when I testified at trial, I could have not said what I said. I would have had to tell the truth.”

She believes the victims’ financial gain was at play.

“I think it was, they were manipulated, and they saw money,’’ she said. “Once lawyers came into the case, they said there was money.”

Dottie Sandusky and filmmaker John Ziegler — who believes Sandusky to be innocent and believes Joe Paterno was unjustly fired — responded to Lauer mentioning that public sympathy is hardly on their side by saying:

“Look, the reality is, I understand exactly what you’re saying,’’ Ziegler said. “People will think that this is insane because they were given a perception of this case that was totally wrong.”

This woman is just as sick as her husband.

How blind can this woman be? Blaming the victims????
!! Talk about being in total denial.

Joe Paterno is saving a nice warm spot for Jerry, Dottie and Mcquery in Hell.

It’s the victims’ fault if Sandusky is a sexual predator? What kind of parallel universe does this woman live in?

Satan will be waiting for the Sanduskys with a fruit basket!

  5. friarjack61 says: Mar 12, 2014 10:00 AM

Sandusky is a sleaze, followed, in hand, by his wife. How deaf, and blind is this woman ? She was at home when some of these ‘affairs’ took place ! This interview proved that the world in which she lives, is void of truth and reality !

Man, it’s stuff like this that makes me wish Penn State would have just shut that program down.

  9. classyjacklambert says: Mar 12, 2014 10:44 AM

Wouldn’t it be crazy if this was all a big conspiracy perpetrated by the victims? I definitely do not think it’s the case at all but how bad would that suck to be on the receiving end of something like that?

  10. deadeye says: Mar 12, 2014 11:24 AM

I can tell from the picture that she knows her husband is guilty. I’m really not sure why she’s doing this.

  11. merc3375 says: Mar 12, 2014 11:49 AM

Of course she has to appear like she believes him. What kind of monster would she look like otherwise? She’s well aware of his actions and she’s just as guilty as that animal!

“when I testified at trial, I could have not said what I said. I would have had to tell the truth.”
So, you lied when you testified. Got it. Thanks for clearing that up, Dot.

HA! That’s a good one. Next you’re going to try to tell me that a Paterno will run for Governor one day!

She sounds like most of the Penn State apologists, she’s not alone.

  18. dkhhuey says: Mar 12, 2014 1:46 PM

Been hanging around the Paterno family I see, eh Dottie? Delusion runs deep and rampant at PSU – perhaps they should start testing the air and water for a high trace levels of toxic waste!

Saw the interview on Today this morning and have a question for those who’ve followed this case in detail:

Filmmaker Ziegler said during the interview that the boy McQueary claims to have seen Sandusky assaulting in the Penn State shower has stated publicly that he was never assaulted. Is that true?

  20. musketmaniac says: Mar 12, 2014 2:45 PM

I was in Atlantic city 15 years ago, struck up a conversation playing Three card poker about Paterno retiring, somebody brought up Sandusky. And this young casino dealer flatly states that he heard rumors that Sandusky was a pedophile.

  21. auburntigers34 says: Mar 12, 2014 3:16 PM

It seems like everyone associated with PSU is delusional, lacks even the most basic morals, and has their priorities totally out of whack.

  22. rtroy23 says: Mar 12, 2014 4:39 PM

Wasn’t this guy caught by one of His peers? Unreal

    *********************
No, and there’s massive doubt that this ziegler’s v2 is the real v2. This one said he was abused but not on that night. He was also adamant that the McQ incident took place in March 2002 and told at least four different versions of his story to investigators and lawyers. He was poison to both the prosecution and defense in the Sandusky trial and thus, was not called. No one has identified the ‘real’ V2.

    Penn friggin’ St. .

  26. novasportsfan says: Mar 12, 2014 11:48 PM

So all of the sudden they devise this huge conspiracy so many years later? I don’t think so. I also have problems with your statement “Do I believe him?’’ she told Matt Lauer. “I definitely believe him. Because if I didn’t believe him, when I testified at trial, I could have not said what I said. I would have had to tell the truth.” Can someone say perjury????? How about the other statement “Family meals, the fun times with the grandkids, playing ball, doing special things with friends.” Maybe these disgusting acts are the special things he refers to. Also showering with kids is the generation he grew up in. Really????? People of his age are usually very conservative. I smell denial.

Hollywood has a habit of blindly defending (convicted & alleged)pedophiles. Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Michael Jackson & now Sandusky.

  28. 65impala says: Mar 13, 2014 10:03 AM

What does this have to do with football. The man is in prision. MOVE ON!

  29. dietrich43 says: Mar 13, 2014 10:37 AM

It’s probably easier for her to believe he was wrongly convicted than to believe she’s married to a pedophile who raped at least a dozen boys.

  30. friarjack61 says: Mar 13, 2014 10:42 AM

    To 65impala.

This is news, that directly relates to a ‘football’, program ! The more information that is presented on any topic, allows one to make a better decision on any issue, whether negative or positive.

  31. Deb says: Mar 13, 2014 1:26 PM

    @stoicpaisano …

Thanks so much for clearing that up. I’ve never doubted Sandusky’s guilt, but was very confused by Ziegler’s comments about the victim in the McQueary incident.

  32. dmcgrann says: Mar 14, 2014 12:05 AM

I recall a convicted murderer of twelve people who was sentenced to two death sentences. After his execution, his family held a funeral service. The program stated that he had been “Murdered by the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

Logic like that continues to be favored by the convicted.

  33. donjsmith says: Mar 17, 2014 10:55 AM

I’d normally say these idiots have blood on their hands, but their fingers are actually brown…
completely classless, as is anyone who continues to protect the shield of PSU football at the expense of children…
