Starting DE one of two leaving Pitt football team

Brian Murphy AP

Somewhat unexpectedly, Pittsburgh’s defensive line has taken a hit in terms of both talent and experience.

Defensive end Bryan Murphy, head coach Paul Chryst said, has decided to leave the Panthers football team.  The other player to leave is fullback Mark Giubilato.

Both players have decided to leave the sport to concentrate on academics, and both will continue do so at Pittsburgh.

Murphy started 12 games in 2012 and nine in 2013.  He was (a very distant) second to Aaron Donald in both tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (four).

Giubilato played in 37 games the past three seasons, mainly on special teams of late.  He did start two games in 2012, however.

Thats the best move especially if either one has had injuries that might prevent them from prospering at the next level…

Academics should always be the ultimate goal, football should be the vessell to pay for a degree.

Its funny, guess that’s why Pitts in trouble, even the Seniors jumping ship! Looks like seasons of beat-downs took their toll.
