Freak accident to keep Florida State RB Dalvin Cook out for spring practice

Florida State Seminoles Logo

Florida State freshman running back Dalvin Cook fell up a flight of stairs in the team’s weight room, suffering a shoulder injury in the process that’ll keep him sidelined for spring practice.

Cook, a five-star recruit who enrolled early at Florida State in January, injured his labrum when he fell awkwardly on the steps, according to the Orlando Sentinel. It’s a shame — here’s a kid who passed on his last semester of high school and moved from Miami to Tallahassee with the intention of participating in spring practice, and now can’t.

Ranked by Rivals as the 18th-best player in the recruiting class of 2014, the 2nd-best running back and third-best player in Florida, Cook chose the ‘Noles over offers from Auburn, Florida, LSU, Miami, Texas and USC, among others.

Coach Jimbo Fisher said he expects Cook to be ready to go for the regular season in five and a half months.

    It happens more often than you’d think. Goggle “Logan Young.

    “The University of Alabama football booster implicated in the Albert Means payoff died when he hit his head in an accidental fall at home, rather than being slain as first thought, police said Thursday. Police initially described the death of 65-year-old Logan Young as a bloody slaying after a fierce struggle but quit calling it a homicide a day later. “We treated it as a homicide, the most serious, and put the puzzle together,” Police Director Larry Godwin said.

    Homicide Lt. Joe Scott said police believe Young tripped while carrying a salad and soft drink up a set of stairs and hit his head on an iron railing.”

    Freak accidents happen quite often. I tripped on a board on my patio and suffered a broken collar bone and a compression fracture (T-12) in my back when I fell into a brick wall. I was out of commission for almost six months since last July.

    Wow, feisty1. Yes, weird accidents can happen anywhere, anytime. Does anyone recall Vince Coleman being disabled for a World Series by the tarpaulin machine? I myself bumped a doorframe and sprained my neck at work years ago. I recall thinking “gee, I didn’t know that could be done!” The neck brace enlightened me, though.

    The Labrum or Labal tissue is cartilage tissue that can be caught between the glenoid and the humerus. A tear in this tissue is most common when someone dislocates their shoulder or arm from the shoulder socket.

    @ Meatcarroll;

    Falling “UP” stairs is not uncommon when someone is in a hurry and misses a step.
