Nebraska center hospitalized for neck injury

Nebraska center Ryne Reeves was taken out of a spring practice on a stretcher with his head strapped in to place after suffering a neck injury Wednesday. Head coach Bo Pelini told reporters the junior center never lost feeling in his neck and was able to move his arms, thus easing the tension of what could have been a terrible situation.

“All his movement, all his feeling, everything like that was fine,” Pelini said, according to Lincoln Star Journal. “But when you have any kind of pain in that area, we’re going to be extremely cautious. Let’s just hope it turns out to be just that, just very precautionary.”

Needless to say, any time a football player suffers a neck injury it is good to hear they have feeling in their neck and extremities. Far too often players have been seriously hurt in a game or practice, and sometimes those injuries lead to playing careers coming to an abrupt end. Fortunately, the early word out of Lincoln seems relatively optimistic for a player competing for the starting job in the middle of the offensive line.

“Any time you have pain in your neck, we’re going to treat it with caution,” Pelini said. “We think it’s precautionary, but we’re going to make sure they find out exactly what’s going on. So we’re going to treat that with a lot of caution. That’s how it works.”

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Reeves.
