There is no questioning just how much of an impact Steve Spurrier has had with the South Carolina football program. Now we have a better idea of the kind of impact he is having on the university as a whole.
Spurrier has donated a total of $1 million back to the university during his time with the school according to a report by The Post and Courier.
“I am very blessed and fortunate to be the head coach here at South Carolina and to be able to give back to our school,” Spurrier said. “Working under the direction of President Harris Pastides and Athletics Director Ray Tanner is simply the best.”
Spurrier is one of the highest paid coaches in the country. According to the database of coaching salaries compiled by USA Today, Spurrier was paid a base salary of $3.3 million in addition to bonuses that took him over $4 million. He is the 12th highest paid coach in the nation and the fifth highest paid coach in the SEC in 2013.
South Carolina has finished the past four seasons ranked in the top 25, with three top-ten finishes the past three years. The Gamecocks have played in a bowl game in all but one season since Spurrier succeeded Lou Holtz in 2005.
