Navy slotback rushed to hospital after collapsing in practice

Navy slotback William McKamey was taken to a Baltimore hospital by helicopter Saturday after collapsing during a football practice. McKamey’s hospitalization was first reported by Yahoo, which noted a Facebook status update from McKamey’s mother.

McKamey was named the state of Tennessee’s Mr. Football in 2012. During that season he also collapsed during a game due to a brain injury. According to his mother’s update on Facebook, this appears to be a similar episode for McKamey.

Navy has confirmed McKamey collapsed this morning and was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit in Baltimore. He is currently undergoing medical care.

“The entire Naval Academy family is shaken by this turn of events and we are providing all the support we can to Will and his family,” the statement from Navy says.
