Alcohol-related incident nets Gamecock lineman an arrest, charges

The “Days Without An Arrest” ticker had slowly been making its way toward the rarefied air of double digits, and then the SEC done went and done that dang thing again.

According to a report from The State, South Carolina offensive lineman Na’Ty Rodgers was arrested and charged following an incident very early Sunday morning. The redshirt freshman was charged by the Columbia Police Department with a pair of misdemeanors: disorderly conduct and consumption of alcohol by a person under the age of 21.

School policy dictates that Rodgers will be indefinitely suspended as a result of the arrest.

The newspaper detailed the events that led up to Rodgers’ predicament:

Officers responded to a civil disturbance at 800 Harden Street after Rodgers was allegedly acting in a loud and boisterous manner, according to information provided by the police. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol when speaking to Rodgers, and he was cooperative with police, the department reported.

Rodgers was a four-star member of the Gamecocks’ 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 15 offensive tackle in the country. After taking a redshirt as a true freshman, Rodgers is expected to compete for a starting job this year.
