The bad news for Ohio State? They’ve lost the services of a starter on the offensive side of the ball to injury. The good news? It should have no impact whatsoever on the player’s availability for the 2014 season.
Citing team insiders, the Columbus Dispatch is reporting that tight end Jeff Heuerman will be lost for the remainder of the spring due to a foot injury. Heuerman suffered the injury during a practice session last week.
Monday, the paper reports, Heuerman underwent surgery on his left foot for what was described as a mid-foot sprain. While Heuerman will miss the remainder of the spring, the Dispatch wrote that "[a]fter recovery and rehab he is expected to return to full speed in time for summer conditioning in late June.”
That, of course, means Heuerman is expected to be available for the start of summer camp as well as the kickoff to the 2014 season.
At a press conference Tuesday evening, head coach Urban Meyer confirmed the report as well as the timeline for a return. Most notably, Meyer stated that the injury was not a Lisfranc in nature. That type of injury can be problematic and linger for months if not longer.
As a true junior last season, Heuerman finished third on the team in receptions (26), receiving yards (466) and receiving touchdowns (four).
