Georgia linebacker will transfer from Bulldogs

Georgia linebacker Paris Bostick will transfer from the program in hopes of a better situation. The redshirt freshman came to the decision mutually with head coach Mark Richt, who confirmed the roster change through a news release.

“After discussing the situation with Paris, we mutually agreed this is a good decision,” Richt said in a news release, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He has a positive future in football and we wish him all the best in attaining his goals in football and in education.”

The loss of Bostick will be a mild hit on the defensive depth for Georgia. According to the AJC, Bostick was sitting third on the team’s depth chart at linebacker this spring, but his ability to play safety could have provided some flexibility if needed. Perhaps his ability to play either position could open up some options at a new program.

Bostick sat out of action last fall after having toe surgery in the summer. Bostick used a redshirt for his freshman season, which means he will have four years of eligibility to work with wherever he ends up. Although he did not play in 2013, typical NCAA transfer rules mean Bostick will have to sit out the 2014 season if he transfers to an FBS school.
