Suspended Washington QB could return this spring

Washington head coach Chris Petersen has not shut the door on a possible spring return for suspended quarterback Cyler Miles. Miles, the likely successor to NFL-bound Keith Price, was suspended by Petersen and the Huskies in early February following an off-field incident. Police decided not to press charges on Miles following an investigation, and that could mean Miles could return to the Huskies before the end of the spring. Petersen is still up in the air about the status of his potential starting quarterback.

“We just haven’t really decided on that whole situation,” Petersen said in a report by The Seattle Times. “It’s kind of one day, one week at a time. There’s no reason to rush anything, and we’re always going to do the right thing.”

Petersen’s decision not to rush to judgement may serve well in this situation. In a world where a rush to judgement and punishment can often run wild, Miles not having charges presented may prove just why Petersen chose to let the legal system to play out before making any final decisions.

“I know everyone thinks they have their opinion on what the right thing is, but we’re going to do the right thing by the school, by this program and by the kids as well,” Petersen said. “I’ve said this before: This is such a political job and I’m never going to make decisions because of political reasons to make me look better, because you think ‘Oh that’s the right thing.’ Well, that’s not why we’re in this thing; we’re in (it) to do the right thing on all accounts. Sometimes, things just need to play out.”

Miles and wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow were indefinitely suspended. Unlike Miles, Stringfellow did not avoid having charges levied against him. Stringfellow as charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault in the fourth degree and one count of malicious mischief.
