Once missing Texas A&M receiver wants to play football again

A former Texas A&M wide receiver that was once missing from the program following the biggest win in recent program history reportedly is hoping to get back on a football field real soon. Thomas Johnson, who went missing following Texas A&M’s road victory at Alabama in 2012, is attempting to get in shape for a possible return to football, although it likely will not come at Texas A&M.

Johnson has kept silent and remained out of the public eye since that bizarre sequence of events following the 2012 win at Alabama. He left Texas A&M on his own account and questions about his departure have largely gone unanswered since that time. But The San Antonio Express News recently caught up with Johnson’s mother, and she suggests her son is doing well and is ready to get back to playing football.

“He’s working out, he’s getting in shape, and he shall return,” his mother, Linda Hanks, told the paper. “He told me he wants to play ball again. Football is in his blood. It’s part of his DNA.”

If and when he returns to playing football, he will do so with three years remaining on his eligibility. He would be eligible to play at an FBS school this fall if a program happens to invite Johnson to be a part of the program.
