After surgery, Gamecocks’ starting TE’s status for 2014 up in the air

At this point in time, South Carolina could have its starting tight end for all or most of the 2014 season. Or not. One of the two.

Rory Anderson suffered a torn triceps during this past Saturday’s scrimmage and, at the time, an ETA on a return was uncertain. After undergoing surgery to repair the damage Tuesday, the timeline for a resumption of his playing career was set at four months.

Such a time frame would mean a return sometime around mid-August; the Gamecocks open the season Aug. 28 at home against Texas A&M.

Head coach Steve Spurrier, however, was non-committal on Anderson’s availability for the upcoming season.

“He could be back [this] year, we’ll see how his physical condition is,” Spurrier said according to GoGamecocks.com. “He does have a redshirt year available, if we need to do that. We’ll try to do what’s best for Busta, and what’s best for the team and go from there.”

Anderson, listed as USC’s No. 1 tight end, finished the 2013 season with 17 catches for 235 yards.
