Arrested Penn State lineman suspended

A week after an ugly off-field incident became public knowledge, a Penn State player has officially found himself in James Franklin’s doghouse.

Shortly after Saturday’s well-attended spring game, the Penn State head coach confirmed that Anthony Alosi (pictured, No. 56) has been indefinitely suspended from the football team. How long the suspension will remain and whether the offensive lineman will miss any games to start the regular season is still to be determined.

In January, Alosi was involved in a physical altercation that led to him being charged with simple assault, conspiracy to commit simple assault and harassment. A police report of the incident stated that Alosi, among other things, kicked a man in the head, sending the victim to the hospital with an injured eye and multiple abrasions and contusions.

A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for April 23.

Alosi, a three-star member of the Nittany Lions’ 2011 recruiting class, played in seven games last season. Given the paucity of players along this year’s line, Alosi has been expected to be even more of a contributor in 2014.
