Michigan State fans did not meet Mark Dantonio’s spring game goal

Mark Dantonio

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio made it clear he wanted 50,000 fans to attend the annual spring game Saturday. Given the announced crowd for the game, Dantonio may be a tad disappointed.

That is good enough to put Michigan State firmly in fourth place in the Big Ten when it comes to spring game and scrimmage attendance. Penn State leads the Big Ten with a reported 72,000 fans at the spring game earlier this month. Nebraska is second with 61,772 fans Ohio State is third with 61,058. It should also be noted Iowa and new Big Ten member Rutgers also have their respective spring games today as well, so this does not include any attendance numbers either of those schools may report.

But hey, this is still roughly 20,000 more fans than the crowd that turned out for Michigan’s final spring practice in Michigan Stadium. That has to count for something to the folks in East Lansing.
