San Jose State LB treated for burns after escaping apartment fire

A San Jose State football player is in critical condition today after suffering burns to his body last week. Jared Leaf, a starting linebacker for the Spartans, escaped a fire at his apartment last week but not without exposing himself to burns requiring medical treatment.

The severity of the burns is not confirmed, although any burn requiring medical treatment is without question concerning.

“Jared has a long road ahead of him, but we are confident he will recover” Leaf’s family said according to the Associated Press. San Jose State is seeking approval from the NCAA to set-up a relief fund to help Leaf’s family pay for the medical bills that will need to be paid for the treatment, according to San Jose Mercury News.

Leaf was recently listed as a starter at linebacker out of the spring, but his status moving forward is now certainly questionable for now.

You can read the full statement released by the Leaf family on San Jose State’s athletics website.

So just because you play football or any sport at a school/university that is a memeber of the NCAA, you lose all your rights except to breath air! How ridiculous does it sound that a player severely injured in an accident has to have the approval of the NCAA to get help with medical expenses! Burns are time consuming and costly to treat, especially if this young man requires skin grafts to heal!…

I think the NCAA has way toooooo much power!!!
