Report: Jake Heaps transferring from Kansas

It appears the speculation regarding Jake Heaps‘ future at Kansas is about to come to fruition.

While nothing is officially official, ESPN.com‘s Brett McMurphy reported overnight that Heaps has decided to transfer out of the KU football program.  The report comes two weeks after Montell Cozart was tabbed by head coach Charlie Weis as the Jayhawks’ starter.

The buzz had been growing of late that Heaps, entering his final season of eligibility, could be looking to ply his quarterbacking wares elsewhere.

Despite the rumors and and reports regarding the player’s future, the Lawrence Journal-World wrote that “Weis, through a KU spokesperson, said that Heaps was at a team meeting early Tuesday evening and was still listed on the KU roster.”

By way of the Deseret News, however, there are a litany of schools to which Heaps is reportedly considering a transfer, including FBS programs such as Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii, SMU and Utah State.  If Heaps is looking for a place to play immediately, Fresno State — they recently signed grad transfer Brandon Connette — and Utah State — Chuckie Keeton is returning from injury and is the Aggies’ unquestioned starter — would appear to be odd fits at the moment.

In December of 2011, it was reported that Heaps would be transferring from BYU to Kansas. After sitting out the 2012 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Heaps started nine games for the Jayhawks in 2013. During that lone season on the field in Lawrence, Heaps completed just 49 percent of his passes and tossed 10 interceptions versus eight touchdowns.

Heaps was a four-star member of the Cougars’ 2010 recruiting class and the No. 1 pro-style QB in the country according to Rivals.com.

Wow! Rivals really nailed that evaluation…

I remember when Heaps held a press conference to announce he was signing with BYU. Lots of fist pumping from BYU fans everywhere.
