Baylor WR Robbie Rhodes popped on pot-related charges

The time of year a head coach and his staff truly dreads, the period between the end of spring practice and the start of summer camp, has claimed yet another legal casualty.

The latest FBS program forced to deal with an off-field issue is Baylor, with the Waco Tribune reporting that wide receiver Robbie Rhodes was arrested early Friday morning on a pair of charges. Specifically, those charges are possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence.

Interestingly, Rhodes also had a previously unreported citation for possession of drug paraphernalia on his rap sheet; that previous drug-related situation combined with the current drug-related situation likely won’t sit well with the Bears coaching staff.

Speaking of which, head coach Art Briles stated that he is aware of his player’s current legal predicament and would address the situation at some point.

Rhodes was a four-star member of BU’s 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 8 wide receiver in the country and the No. 8 player in the talent-rich state of Texas at any position. As a true freshman last season, Rhodes caught 10 passes for 157 yards.

Provided he can avoid the munchies and/or naps and/or Briles’ doghouse, Rhodes is expected to be a significant contributor in Baylor’s high-octane offense in 2014.
