Half of Hokies’ talented young DB duo undergoes surgery

The bad news for Virginia Tech is that one its top players on the defensive side of the ball -- and one of the top young defensive backs in the ACC -- was one of four Hokies to undergo post-spring medical procedures. The good news? It should not have a lingering, long-term impact on the player’s availability.

According to Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times, Tech’s head athletic trainer, Mike Goforth, confirmed that Brandon Facyson recently underwent surgery related to a lingering stress “reaction” in one of his legs. It was that injury that sidelined Facyson for the whole of spring practice earlier this offseason.

The trainer stated that the defensive back is expected to be 100-percent healthy for the start of summer camp in early August.

In 2013 as a true freshman, Facyson was tied for 18th in the country with five interceptions -- teammate and fellow true freshman Kendall Fuller was tied for seventh with six. Facyson was named third-team All-ACC and earned numerous freshman All-American honors.

In addition to Facyson, linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka, tight end Kalvin Cline and center Kyle Chung all underwent surgeries as well. All but Chung are expected back for the start of camp.
