Sadly, the head of the Florida football program is dealing with and grieving over a personal loss he suffered last week.
According to Robbie Andreu of the Gainesville Sun, the father of UF head coach Will Muschamp, Herbert Larry Muschamp, died this past Thursday night in a Mentone, Ala., hospital at the age of 79. No cause of death was given, and a memorial service was held Sunday evening.
Muschamp’s father, who was born in Rome, Ga., and played a significant role in his son’s coaching future, played college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He went on to become a teacher and head football coach in his hometown before becoming the principal at another Georgia high school. The Sun wrote that the father “moved to Gainesville in the 1980s to become the Headmaster at Oak Hall School before returning to his home state in 1986.”
The paper also wrote that, “[i]n lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be sent to the Cloudland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 732, Summerville, GA. 30747 or the Ralley Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, 5775 Glenridge Dr., Building B, Suite 370, Atlanta, Ga. 30328.”
Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Coach Muschamp and his entire family on their loss.
