Florida lands UVA transfer tight end Jake McGee

Florida’s offense got itself a nice boost on Friday, with tight end Jake McGee announcing he’s headed to Gainesville as a graduate student transfer, meaning he’ll be eligible to play this coming fall for the Gators.

McGee announced in late April he’d be transferring from Virginia to play his final year of college football elsewhere. Over the last two seasons with the ‘Hoos, McGee had 71 catches for 769 yards and seven touchdowns. The 6-foot-6, 250 pound native of Richmond, Va., was on the Mackey Award watch list prior to the 2013 season.

Florida already has a pair of senior tight ends in Clay Burton and Tevin Westbrook, those the pair combined for just four catches in 2013.

The Gators can use all the help they can get after an injury-riddled offense finished 99th in offensive F/+ last season.
