NFL Draft: Aaron Murray and AJ McCarron finally drafted

Two of the top quarterback from the SEC over the last few years not named Johnny Manziel finally saw their draft wait come to an end. Fittingly enough, Georgia’s Aaron Murray and Alabama’s AJ McCarron ended up going on successive picks.

The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Murray, a record-setting passer for Georgia coming off an ACL injury, with the 163rd overall pick in the fifth round. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has been known as a bit of a quarterback coach during his career so the pairing with Murray could be a good fit for a team that could use some stability under center. Whether Murray can offer that remains to be seen but Reid could be setting up a great situation for the former Georgia quarterback. Expect Murray to be more likely to be a success under Reid like Donovan McNabb instead of a complete failure the way Kevin Kolb was in Philadelphia.

The next pick in the draft saw the Cincinnati Bengals pick up McCarron. The three-time national championship quarterback came under some scrutiny for how he has handled himself this offseason leading up to the draft and now he will look to prove something with the Bengals. McCarron will continue being division rivals with Manziel of Texas A&M, who was selected in the first round by the Cleveland Browns.

LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger is still on the board.
