Former four-star OL transfers from Ole Miss, walks on at Auburn

Here’s a transfer situation you don’t see very often: Offensive lineman Austin Golson is transferring from Ole Miss to walk on at Auburn.

Golson, a four-star member of Ole Miss’ heralded 2013 recruiting class, decided to leave Ole Miss in April to be closer to his sick grandparents. For the native of Prattville, Ala., Auburn -- about an hour’s drive away -- made the most sense. Golson will be eligible to play for Auburn in 2015, but will have to pay his way through school in 2014.

As a freshman with Ole Miss, Golson played 12 games as a reserve at right guard in 2013 and very well could’ve started at right tackle in Oxford this fall. Rated as the No. 8 tackle and No. 118 overall player in the recruiting class of 2013, Golson should provide a nice boost to Auburn’s offensive line in a year and a half.
