Ex-USC RB looking to go B1G in transfer

It’s remains unclear to which school Ty Isaac will transfer after leaving USC earlier in the week. The running back did, though, allow that one conference in particular is the current front-runner for his services.

“I wouldn’t say I have a top three, but I’m looking at Big Ten schools that are close to where I live,” the running back told the Chicago Tribune.

The Joliet, Ill., native left the Trojans in order to play closer to his ailing mother. According to the player, his mother is having complications after undergoing a surgical procedure to correct a hearing loss.

Michigan has already been in contact, Isaac said, as has Illinois. Isaac opted to sign with the Trojans over a final three that included the Wolverines and Notre Dame.

The Irish would also be a consideration for Isaac, although the back told the Tribune that one of the stipulations on his release from USC is that he’s not permitted to transfer to Notre Dame. The Trojans didn’t single out the Irish, however, as Isaac is restricted from transferring to any team on its schedule.

Isaac is, though, holding out hope that he can get around that restriction on a technicality and at least consider the South Bend school.

“Right now they are a team I can’t talk to,” Isaac told the paper. “That might change. (USC) might have missed the deadline to give restrictions. If they did I would consider it. … I definitely don’t want it to be a dragged-out process. I want to figure out where I’m going to be next year and get to work.”

Because of his mother’s health, Isaac will seek a waiver that would grant him immediate eligibility in 2014.

As a true freshman in 2013, Isaac rushed for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 40 carries. Coming out of high school, Isaac was a five-star recruit rated as the No. 4 back in the country and the No. 27 player at any position in the country.
