Roughly midway between the end of spring practice and the start of summer workouts, Paul Johnson has made an addition to his Georgia Tech coaching staff.
In a press release Tuesday, Johnson announced that Ray Rychleski has been hired as his new special teams coordinator. Rychleski will replace Dave Walkosky, who abruptly and unexpectedly resigned earlier this month.
Former Fresno State head coach Pat Hill was reportedly a candidate to fill the void before Johnson handed the special team reins over to Rychleski.
“I am excited to have Ray as part of our coaching staff,” Johnson said in a statement. “He brings a great deal of experience, he’s been successful at a number of places, and I think he will fit in well with our staff.”
Rychleski had spent the past five seasons at the professional level in both the NFL (Indianapolis Colts) and CFL (last season.) His last year at the collegiate level was 2008 when he served as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at South Carolina.
He also spent time at Maryland, Wake Forest and Penn State.
