NMSU abruptly loses second OL coach this month

Head coach Doug Martin is having a little bit of an “issue” with one of the positions on his New Mexico State staff.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Steve Marshall had left his post as Martin’s offensive line coach to take a job with the Green Bay Packers. Marshall was replaced by Chris Symington... who now needs replaced as well.

NMSU announced via a press release Wednesday that Symington has resigned his position as line coach. According to the school, the resignation is related to non-specific, “ongoing health issues” for the coach, whose hiring was announced May 9.

“Right now our concern is for Chris’ health and helping him get better,” Martin said. “Myself and the staff support coach Symington and will do everything we can to help him. His health is more important right now than the game of football.”

A search for Symington’s replacement will begin immediately.
