Iowa’s depth chart will have different -- and thinner -- look when summer camp rolls around in a couple of months.
The Hawkeyes confirmed via a press release that running back Barkley Hill and wide receiver A.J. Jones have decided to transfer out of the football program. While it’s unclear to where Jones is headed, Hill is reportedly set to transfer to Northern Iowa. Hill would be eligible to play immediately in 2014 at the FCS school, which opens the 2014 season against, you guessed it, Iowa.
Neither player saw any game action during their brief time with the Hawkeyes, with Hill redshirting as a true freshman in 2012 due to a knee injury while a deep stable of backs kept him buried on the depth chart last season. Jones, meanwhile, took a redshirt his only season at Iowa last year.
Hill came to Iowa with rather high expectations as he was named the state of Iowa’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
In addition to Hill and Jones, the school announced that wide receiver Blake Haluska will not play again for the school due to injury. A lingering shoulder issue will keep the senior from playing his final season of college football. Originally a walk-on, Haluska played in three games in 2013.
“We wish each of the three the best of luck moving forwards with their careers,” a portion of head coach Kirk Ferentz‘s statement read.
