In July of last year, Kevin Asante left the Virginia Tech football team and didn’t play for the Hokies in 2013.
Nearly a year later, the prodigal wide receiver has returned.
A Tech official confirmed to the Roanoke Times that Asante is once again a member of the football team and is set to play for the Hokies in 2014. There is still no verified reason for Asante’s departure in the summer of last year.
Asante was a two-star member of the Hokies’ 2011 recruiting class. After redshirting as a true freshman, he played in 10 games in 2012.
While Asante had just two catches for 18 yards that second season in Blacksburg, he exited spring as the No. 2 player at one of the wide receiver positions.
