Report: Mark Emmert’s right-hand man on his way out

Yahoo’s Charles Robinson and Pat Forde report NCAA chief operating officer Jim Isch will leave his post in the next few months.

Isch, who Robinson and Forde characterize as Mark Emmert’s right-hand man, played a role in the NCAA’s inept investigation into Miami and Nevin Shapiro. Isch approved a $20,000 payment requested by NCAA enforcement head Julie Roe Lach to an attorney of Shapiro’s, a payment that severely damaged the NCAA’s case against Miami.

Isch escaped with his job, as an outside committee ruled that while he approved the payment, he didn’t approve the funds to be used to pay Shapiro’s attorney. In terms of oversight, doesn’t that seem worse?

The fifth paragraph in Robinson and Forde’s story is a pretty scathing summation of the NCAA under Emmert, so give it a read on this Tuesday morning.
