Mississippi State assistant coach’s house the scene of heroin (and live chicken) bust

Deshea Townsend #26

Police in the Pittsburgh area arrested two men as part of a drug bust Sunday night in the home of Mississippi State cornerbacks coach Deshea Townsend. According to the team over on Pro Football Talk, police seized 1,500 bricks of heroin (75,000 stamped bags), 16 firearms, more than $100,000 in cash and jewelry, two luxury vehicles, Cuban cigars and a live chicken.

At this time there is no indication Townsend is actually connected to the drug bust other than owning the home the contents were seized. The names of the two men arrested are Price Montgomery and James Perrin. Their connection to Townsend, at this time, is unconfirmed. Townsend joined the Mississippi State coaching staff in 2013.

We will just have to wait for more details on this incident, especially when it comes to the live chicken.

UPDATE (6:48 p.m.): Mississippi State has released a statement confirming Townsend’s only connection to this incident is through owning the house. Below is the entire statement as provided through email;

“Deshea Townsend has learned that arrests occurred at a property titled in his name in the Mount Washington area of Pittsburgh. Although Coach Townsend has not been associated with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2010, he continues to own investment property in the Pittsburgh area. The property in question was the subject of a lease purchase agreement executed in March 2012. Neither individuals arrested were signatories to the March 2012 lease agreement. Coach Townsend employs a rental agent to conduct his affairs regarding this property and in no way is associated with the activities that may have occurred at a property rented by him to others.”

    Not suprising… I heard a news report here in Alabama just a few weeks ago stating heroin has taken over as the more popular street drug above cocaine.

    Yeah, not sure how/where the live chicken fits into the sceme of things….

    In his house . There is no connection to the drugs, guns, money; but having a chicken, in the area at dinner time, could have some kind of devious relationship ?

    This coach should be charged as well. There is no doubt that he knew what was going on in the house that he owns. Does he not ever check on his property? With that much drugs and guns in the home, there most likely a lot of walk up traffic. Did he run a background check on the tenants? He will at dumb but the idiots he rented the home to will not keep there mouth shut. Former nfl player who had a huge salary, compared to most Americans, got his first coaching job. Most likely 1/20 of why his nfl salary was, rented a house to two drug dealers for a share of the profits. Most likely he put up the money for the drugs hoping to turn a profit.

    I knew the San Diego Chicken was less popular than he once was, but seeing him hit the skids like this is just plain sad.
